Battlefield 5: developer promises more destruction

Battlefield 5 © Electronic Arts
Already in "Battlefield 4" it crashes properly. Nevertheless wants developers Dice in "Battlefield 5" go one better

like the " Call of Duty "series" Battlefield "does not appear in an annual cycle. Nevertheless developer Dice has been a week before the release of " Battlefield 4 "ideas about what the sequel could do better than the current title. On the question of what can players of "Battlefield 5" expect, answered Dice boss Patrick Bach a U.S. newspaper succinctly: "More functions, more extras and more destruction." Each new part had to be the next big thing. On a possible story Bach did not comment. The play second fiddle anyway. During the meeting, Bach pointed out that the "Battlefield" series mainly live from their game mechanics. EA vice president Patrick Söderlund confirmed this view and acknowledges that the series was designed to playfully entertain and not to tell stories.

Disney makes electricity with paper

Disney Research revisits the use of a single sheet of paper by giving a nice feature. Transforming it into electricity generator, it creates enough energy to power a LED light or an e-ink screen and it just friction.

The method does not require batteries or batteries to operate. Indeed, the generator itself is actually a thin Teflon sheet sandwiched between two conductive adhesives as an electrode. All, cleverly integrated into the paper. But the system also works on printed with conductive ink paper.When the user rubs on this specific part of the sheet, it creates electrical charges which will then produce an alternating current. Result: you can turn one or more LEDs, create animations on a screen e-ink or activate a built-in buzzer.
In its application, this paper generator could equip children's books or interactive posters in the future. Disney has collaborated with scientists from the Carnegie-Melon University to develop prototypes.

VW XL1 Sports: Fuel Savings from mobile with motor Ducati Superbike

Volkswagen XL1: Plans for fuel saver as the sport version
Volkswagen XL1: Plans for fuel saver as the sport version
VW plans, according to the Austrian magazine "Auto Review" , offering its fuel-saving motor home XL1 to expand and XL Sports to produce. Such plans has presented the VW supervisory board chairman Ferdinand Piech at the Technical University of Vienna. The engine is from the Ducati Superbike 1199 Panigale where the engine 190 hp developed.

Trend towards fuel-efficient sports car

The hybrid flies out, but with only 795 kilos to the extremely light beat the competition in terms of fuel saving mini sports car. In recent times, some fuel-saving sports cars like Porsche 918 Spyder with hybrid drive, 3 liters consumption and 887 hp, the Audi Sport Quattro Concept with hybrid drive, 700 hp and 2.5 liter fuel economy and the Jaguar C-X75 presented with hybrid drive.

Opportunities exist for small series

Further details are not yet known, but since the XL1 in a small series of 250 vehicles first 1-liter car in the world is produced in the former Karmann plant in Osnabrück, also the XL-series small sports opportunities can be given.

VIDEO. The American soldier of the future, strong and bulletproof, like Iron Man?
The armor Talos project in a computer simulation of a combat demonstration.
U.S. Army RDECOM
Protected and armed with an exoskeleton soldiers! This is both the return of the good old armor but also of science fiction could very well become reality.
The U.S. Agency for Defense (DARPA) has been developing for several months Talos (Tactical Assault Suit Light Operator), an exoskeleton to soldiers of the Army. This armor, visually resembles the internationally known Marvels Iron Man superhero.

A super-armor study

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have given the realization of the armor of Talos by the army. Their goal, make invulnerable thanks to a condensed high-tech soldiers.Researchers are trying to develop a shield from future of a revolutionary liquid that happen in the solid state in a few milliseconds by activating a magnetic or electric charge. The soldier would then be invulnerable to bullets . Researchers at the University of Delaware in 2004 planchaient already on such a project.
The futuristic armor allow the soldier to carry heavy equipment and it will benefit from increased strength.
The soldier of the future would also have a system of monitoring of vital signs and a computer to locate on a battlefield while communicating with the command. The combination should also be able to generate heat or oxygen.
This project is part of a trend of research focuses on man-machine interface, to multiply the capabilities of a single soldier. It was initiated by Admiral William McRaven, head of Special Operations Command, and became famous when he led the Navy SEAL raid to kill Osama bin Laden in May 2011.
The admiral said he was in July "very attached" to the project. "I like to think that the last member of a lost battle commando will be the last and I think we can do that."

Call for other projects

The U.S. Special Operations Command, which oversees the elite commandos of the Navy, "Navy SEAL" and the Army, the "Army Rangers" have appealed to researchers to present projects on technologies that can be incorporated into a "smart armor fight."
Projects may be submitted until September 2014 . The military and Pentagon officials will then decide how to proceed, taking into account the growing budget constraints, said the spokesman of the command of the Army for research, development and engineering, Roger Teel.
According to researchers at RDECOM, the first prototype of Talos could be ready within two or three years.

Talos the United States, France Hercules

France is still far from such a project but is already developing its own exoskeleton for military use.
His name Hercules . Developed by the company RB3D and the Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), it is a mechanical extension of the human body. It is intended to help soldiers in the handling of heavy loads.

Windows 8.1: the final version available for download

After months of waiting and various prerelease and RTM, the final version of Windows 8.1 was just released. The operating system is now available for existing users of Windows 8.0 in the form of a very large update to download.
To prevent all users, a message appears on the screen, inviting them to visit the Windows Store to get the full update. The update applies to the version for desktops and laptops (Windows 32 and 64 bit), but also for tablets running Windows RT. And even those who have a RTM version of Windows 8.1 are concerned, since update 241.3 MB (64-bit) is waiting on Windows Update.
Summary of previously discussed new features of Windows 8.1:
  • reintroduction of the Start button . Although very popular with users of older versions of Windows, its use differs. Left-click leads to the Home screen, and right-click to access the Control Panel, the Task Manager, the command prompt, etc..
  • ability to boot to the desktop (like Windows 7.0 and earlier versions) or on the Home screen (like Windows 8.0);
  • Total customization of the Home screen and access the list of installed at the bottom of the screen in question applications;
  • new Modern UI applications : health and fitness, alarm, calculator, etc..
  • new search module ;
  • Settings module PC much more comprehensive
  • full integration of SkyDrive and Office Explorer
Finally, the last point: the price. If you want to migrate from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 , it will cost you $163.82. If you opt for the Pro version of Windows 8.1, it will cost you $382.43. Remember also that the sites Amazon and Darty always offer to migrate from Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 to Windows 8 Pro for less than $60 ... and as the update to Windows 8.1, it would be a shame not to take advantage of this method, which drastically reduces the bill.
