Google is working on a project space elevator

According to a report by Fast Company, the Google X labs, working in secret on specific projects, have attempted to design a good orbital elevator to go into space.
Google X labs are a little hidden part of the iceberg google. far from the traditional activities of the Web giant, these labs are designed to perform operations research and development in all areas.   some of their projects been made public, as automate cars or augmented reality glasses , others have leaked, as work on face recognition or voice recognition. The secrecy surrounding these laboratories will into their location, hardly do we know they are in the San Francisco Bay.
These secret laboratories would thus nurtured the ambition to build a space similar to that elevator recently referred by scientists at the International Academy of Astronautics. They had, however, referred to the difficulties of making such a project, and it seems that they are the same reasons that prompted Google to abandon the idea for the moment. The researchers include concluded that this would require "cables at least a hundred times stronger than steel more resistant than we know." If such a cable can be replaced by carbon nanotubes, the problem is in their design: for now, there is no cable carbon nanotube whose length exceeds the meter . The project has been shelved for now, but may well reappear soon as technological advances permit.

3D printing to create disposable UAVs

3D printing has the advantage of producing a real object in a relatively short period of time and "cost". Pushing the limits of this technology, engineers at the University of Sheffield have created a drone with the same print.

This 3D printed UAV is the work of the scientific research center of advanced manufacturing (CDMA). Taking the form of a flying wing, the prototype has been developed to best reduce the amount of materials needed for its construction. Thus, the unmanned craft 1.5 m wingspan was made from a Stratasys 3D printer using FDM technology. This extruded ABS plastic melt by depositing the layer by layer. In the end, the nine pieces that make up was created in less than 24 hours. For ease of transport, the apparatus can be disassembled into two. So this method opens the way to cheap and disposable but may also be able to fly over the sky drones.
For now, the prototype drone officiates as glider but its designers intend to equip a propeller propulsion system. A larger and more powerful model is also planned, carrying a GPS, an independent operating system and data recording.

Little Printer: The printer robot

Halfway between the printer and the robot vacuum cleaner, there is Little Printer , a project Kickstarter innovative but quite dispensable.
Little Printer is equipped with a motor and wheels that allow it to move, but simply on a flat surface.Mobile printer, simply place it on a sheet of paper to get to work. Compact design, it is against much slower than a conventional printer. It swallows an average of 10 pages per minute while the Little Printer will print in just over one in the same time. Also note that the print definition is far from being impeccable. At 96 x 192 dpi , it is really at the gadget. For now, it works with a Mac or PC. Mobile compatibility should be added shortly. Connect autonomy, its manufacturer announced that it is capable of printing 1000 pages with a single cartridge. By cons, nothing is said about the duration of the battery. Currently on Kickstarter , the project has already won nearly half of the funds necessary for its implementation. To obtain a copy of this robot-printer, it costs $ 180 (plus $ 20 shipping).

The graceful solar flare NASA

NASA regularly publishes unpublished images of space, and has unveiled a video of a solar flare.Occurred Wednesday, April 2, this phenomenon was filmed by the Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite, solar observatory space agency.

Defined as "graceful" by NASA, it is an M-class solar flare, with an intensity level of 6.5. Qualified average eruption, it is ten times less powerful than the most powerful class in the category X,. The latter can cause geomagnetic storms and disrupt the atmosphere, causing the malfunction of electronic devices. If the image is spectacular, it suggests to the surface of the sun, some chips and flares. All captured between the union of two wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation lengths.
The satellite was filmed was put into orbit around the Earth, over 36 000 km altitude over the Pacific.
