they create a 3D printed lens For $ 2

The application of 3D printing in medicine made its way slowly. However, the recent creation ensuing could facilitate the work of physicians. It is a microscopic lens, when mounted on a terminal, acts dermatoscope functional. should this 3D printed researchers at the Australian National University lens. The concept is based on the optical effect caused by a drop of water. The team of Professor Steve Lee has managed to print 3D gel PMDS (a silicone polymer) on a glass slide. They were then baked at 70 ° C until it hardens. Repeating the action and adding a drop of the precious material, they managed to get a lens a few millimeters thick. Able to enlarge an image 160 times, its resolution is about 4 microns. Cost of operation: $ 2 according to its designers.

This invention can make medical microscopy everyone. With this inexpensive method, doctors can diagnose a patient with a smartphone or tablet to detect diseases of the skin.
In the prototype, its designers are trying to improve the process to create lenses printed in larger and powerful 3D.

Google is working on a project space elevator

According to a report by Fast Company, the Google X labs, working in secret on specific projects, have attempted to design a good orbital elevator to go into space.
Google X labs are a little hidden part of the iceberg google. far from the traditional activities of the Web giant, these labs are designed to perform operations research and development in all areas.   some of their projects been made public, as automate cars or augmented reality glasses , others have leaked, as work on face recognition or voice recognition. The secrecy surrounding these laboratories will into their location, hardly do we know they are in the San Francisco Bay.
These secret laboratories would thus nurtured the ambition to build a space similar to that elevator recently referred by scientists at the International Academy of Astronautics. They had, however, referred to the difficulties of making such a project, and it seems that they are the same reasons that prompted Google to abandon the idea for the moment. The researchers include concluded that this would require "cables at least a hundred times stronger than steel more resistant than we know." If such a cable can be replaced by carbon nanotubes, the problem is in their design: for now, there is no cable carbon nanotube whose length exceeds the meter . The project has been shelved for now, but may well reappear soon as technological advances permit.

3D printing to create disposable UAVs

3D printing has the advantage of producing a real object in a relatively short period of time and "cost". Pushing the limits of this technology, engineers at the University of Sheffield have created a drone with the same print.

This 3D printed UAV is the work of the scientific research center of advanced manufacturing (CDMA). Taking the form of a flying wing, the prototype has been developed to best reduce the amount of materials needed for its construction. Thus, the unmanned craft 1.5 m wingspan was made from a Stratasys 3D printer using FDM technology. This extruded ABS plastic melt by depositing the layer by layer. In the end, the nine pieces that make up was created in less than 24 hours. For ease of transport, the apparatus can be disassembled into two. So this method opens the way to cheap and disposable but may also be able to fly over the sky drones.
For now, the prototype drone officiates as glider but its designers intend to equip a propeller propulsion system. A larger and more powerful model is also planned, carrying a GPS, an independent operating system and data recording.

Little Printer: The printer robot

Halfway between the printer and the robot vacuum cleaner, there is Little Printer , a project Kickstarter innovative but quite dispensable.
Little Printer is equipped with a motor and wheels that allow it to move, but simply on a flat surface.Mobile printer, simply place it on a sheet of paper to get to work. Compact design, it is against much slower than a conventional printer. It swallows an average of 10 pages per minute while the Little Printer will print in just over one in the same time. Also note that the print definition is far from being impeccable. At 96 x 192 dpi , it is really at the gadget. For now, it works with a Mac or PC. Mobile compatibility should be added shortly. Connect autonomy, its manufacturer announced that it is capable of printing 1000 pages with a single cartridge. By cons, nothing is said about the duration of the battery. Currently on Kickstarter , the project has already won nearly half of the funds necessary for its implementation. To obtain a copy of this robot-printer, it costs $ 180 (plus $ 20 shipping).

The graceful solar flare NASA

NASA regularly publishes unpublished images of space, and has unveiled a video of a solar flare.Occurred Wednesday, April 2, this phenomenon was filmed by the Solar Dynamics Observatory satellite, solar observatory space agency.

Defined as "graceful" by NASA, it is an M-class solar flare, with an intensity level of 6.5. Qualified average eruption, it is ten times less powerful than the most powerful class in the category X,. The latter can cause geomagnetic storms and disrupt the atmosphere, causing the malfunction of electronic devices. If the image is spectacular, it suggests to the surface of the sun, some chips and flares. All captured between the union of two wavelengths of ultraviolet radiation lengths.
The satellite was filmed was put into orbit around the Earth, over 36 000 km altitude over the Pacific.

Windows XP is over

Windows XP goes. The operating system of Microsoft, launched on 25 October 2001 , we said goodbye. Redmond today issued a last fix pack (the famous patch Tuesday) and urges the ultimate users of the operating system to migrate to a newer version of Windows . Microsoft gave a press conference yesterday evening, while focusing on its plans for Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 update, also reported on the risks faced by users who still use the old OS.
On April 8, 2014 therefore marks the end of support for Windows XP. Microsoft will no longer publish any update of its operating system. Only companies can obtain updates from Microsoft updates sold at exorbitant prices because they require costly development teams. For the general public, no further update will be not released, except that published today. Clearly, what does all this mean? Here's a little summary of what you need to know:
  • If you still use Windows XP today, all is not lost. The latest patches from being published , you theoretically still a few days before the first security vulnerabilities of the OS will be exposed by hackers. But it is imperative to hurry.
  • The risk that the victim OS are significant security vulnerabilities are enormous. Windows XP is still installed about 27% of users worldwide, hackers already grind brains to discover vulnerabilities in the OS, which their will undoubtedly infect a machine, take control, to retrieve personal information from the remote user, etc..
  • It is imperative to migrate to a newer system . It may be Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 Update (or even Vista, why not) or a Linux distribution. Note also that, to switch from Windows XP to a much more recent version of the system, and without loss of data, Microsoft recommends the application Laplink PCmover Express .
  • If you wish to continue to use Windows XP temporarily, install a complete security solution. It will not protect you 100%, but will limit the damage until full migration.
  • Finally, perhaps more anecdotal, Office 2003 is also patched today for the last time. The office suite can also be a victim of security breaches, it is strongly advised to migrate to a newer version of Office, or failing version to opt for a free solution as Appache OpenOffice .
Finally, for more details, please see our big file on the migration of Windows XP to Windows 7 or Windows 8 , as well as our FAQs stop supporting Windows XP .

Facebook swallows Oculus VR

Facebook swallows Oculus VR

The  Facebook has secured the VR goggles manufacturer Oculus VR for 2.3 billion U.S. dollars and is the second billion purchase within just two months. The payment of the purchase price is 400 million U.S. dollars in cash and 1.6 billion dollars in shares. A bonus in the form of a 300 million U.S. dollar equity stake get the Oculus-founders, if the pre-set targets have been achieved.

The data glasses Oculus Rift has so far been sold to 40,000 developers and is not available for normal users. As Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg reported results for Oculus VR the opportunity to build the most social platform ever bringing the way of work, communication and playing would undergo a change. The data eyewear manufacturers traced to cause the target to experience the users the unbelievable. As applications for the Oculus VR games, movies and product advertising are conceivable.

When and at what price the data glasses will come on the market, also have no information known. In the mid-1990s, there were already attempts to establish similar glasses on the market but the demand was too low and the technology is not as modern as today.

The main battle tank of the future will be invisible

Obrum, the Polish defense company is currently developing an invisible battle tank. Straight out of Tron universe, the concept is known as the PL-01. Vehicle futuristic fight can go unnoticed by changing the temperature at its surface.
The goal is to avoid visual detection, infrared or radar based on deception. To do so, the fictional battle tank is equipped with temperature controllers panels. With this system, the vehicle can adapt its shielded depending on the temperature environment, thereby making the invisible thermal imaging analysis.
Kind of vehicle chameleon, it can also use its panels to reproduce a camouflage pattern, allowing it to blend naturally in nature. With camera mounted on top, an operator can steer enjoying a 360 degree view.
The production of PL-01 is expected to begin later in 2018 and whose assembly is scheduled for 2022.
